Villa Amazonia is a restored historic mansion dating back to the golden age of rubber extraction in Brazil. The facade, front-desk and the restaurant are located in the historical side of the building, which has been completely restored.

The 30 spacious and modern rooms each have a balcony overlooking the pretty courtyard garden and natural stone pool. The hotel offers a fully equipped gym as well as a restaurant serving international cuisine with a traditional Amazon twist.

Cristalino Lodge £££££

Cristalino Lodge is nestled beside the banks of the Cristalino River in a private forest reserve in the southern Amazon Rainforest. There are 18 rooms, ranging from standard to spacious bungalows set within the forest. All the accommodation has ceiling fans and screened windows allowing the sounds of the jungle into the room as well as hammocks outside. The bungalows have in addition an outside shower set in a private garden. As well as an extensive network of walking trails through the rainforest and canoeing options, Cristalino Lodge boasts a 50-metre canopy tower with three different platforms for watching wildlife below and above the canopy, and there is a screened tree house for chance sightings of tapirs and peccaries that arrive to feed on the salt clay.

Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge £££££

The Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge is set in a vast stretch of rainforest in the Anavilhanas Archipelago, the world’s largest freshwater archipelago, two and a half hours from Manaus, on the banks of the Rio Negro. There are six thatched bungalows and 16 cottages situated throughout the forest, in the traditional caboclo style of the region. They are stylish and comfortable with air conditioning, electricity, hot water and a private terrace. The two panoramic bungalows are huge, double the size of the other rooms, with a glass wall as well as the living room and dining area.
