Song Saa Private Island

Song Saa spans the two tiny islands of Koh Ouen and Koh Bong off the coast of Cambodia. Connected by a footbridge these remote, jungle-covered islands are fringed with white sandy beaches and surrounded by a 100-hectare marine reserve, established by the Song Saa Foundation.

The 27 one and two-bedroom villas each have a decked area, ocean views and private pool with either a jungle or stilted, overwater location. Thatched roofs, timber beams and stone walls hide elegant and chic interiors. An infinity edge swimming pool, spa and delicious cuisine all combine to make this a special place to stay.

Small but perfectly formed, the islands take just 15 minutes to walk around so one is forced to switch off. The Song Saa staff are kind and attentive creating a relaxed and relaxing environment.

Activities

Activities on offer include diving, snorkelling, water skiing, trekking and yoga. Kayak through the shady mangroves in search of wildlife and explore neighbouring islands and local communities on an island safari. Spend a few hours with the conservation team to learn about the local rainforest and its ecosystem, tailored for both adults and children. To gain a better understanding of the island, spend the day in the local village. Visit the nearby farm with Khmer agriculture and herbal remedies. Finish your stay with a traditional Buddhist ceremony or blessing, which are done without charge.

Sustainability

A team of biologists and conservation staff work at Song Saa maintaining and studying the self-made marine reserve surrounding the islands. Established to safeguard the island’s reefs and marine life it is now thriving with residents including turtles, seahorses and exotic species of tropical fish.
Recycling and waste initiatives are in place and sustainable farming projects have been set up in nearby villages. Over 80% of the staff are from Cambodia.
