Singita Kwitonda

Set right on the edge of Volcanoes National Park, Singita Kwitonda is a stylish lodge that puts life-changing gorilla trekking experiences within easy reach.

Looking out towards the volcanic peaks of Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura, this lodge makes the most of the beautiful views with enormous glass windows featuring through the rooms and communal areas. Each of the eight suites features a private, heated plunge pool, wellness treatment area and indoor and outdoor fireplaces to keep the chill of the mountain air at bay.

Why we like Singita Kwitonda

Designed with respect to its remarkable location, this lodge is built from a mixture of light woods and volcanic stone with woven ceilings and hand-fired terracotta brickwork crafted by local artisans.

A dedicated conservation room and on-site nursery and vegetable garden, which provides fresh produce for Kwitonda’s farm-to-table journey, further enhances the experience.

Activities

Singita Kwitonda offers far more than a base for gorilla trekking. Thanks to all the guided activities available, longer stays are recommended, just to take advantage of them all. Other activities include tours of the lodge’s plant nursery, wine tasting, yoga, cycling, massage treatments, cookery classes, golden monkey trekking, community tours and hikes to Dian Fossey’s grave.

Sustainability

Every element of the build was carefully researched and considered, from the local bricks and volcanic rock used to build the walls, to the mechanical ventilation system which draws in fresh air to ventilate rather than using carbon-heavy air conditioning. Heat pump and solar water heater hybrid systems provide underfloor heating, domestic hot water and pool heating.
