Located in the heart of the Denali National Park only accessible by helicopter, this property is one of Alaska’s treasures. The back-story to the rise of Sheldon Chalet is remarkable and it has taken three generations of the Sheldon family to make their dream come true.

Today, perched at 6,000 feet in five acres of private land on the flanks of North America’s highest Mountain, Denali, is a beautiful boutique chalet offering just five double rooms and the very best of Alaskan adventures. With incredible star-gazing, gourmet picnics on the glacier, and some of the best mountain activities found anywhere in the world, whether you are travelling as couple or family group, this is a must on any trip to Alaska.

Not only does the property combine the highest-level of comfort with incredible Alaskan adventures that has never been achieved before, but it’s unique position on Earth, means the light is so natural it is possible to see purple aurora and blue shooting stars with the naked eye.

Activities

Sheldon offers year-round activities according to the seasons including heli-skiing, ice climbing, glacier trekking, sledding, rappelling and aurora viewing.

Spring Snow

From February, Spring begins to creep in, the days and nights are ideal for aurora viewing and glacier adventures. Powder snow makes for fantastic back country skiing (additional cost), climbing and crevasse exploration.

Summer Adventures

Summer returns in May where the midnight sun provides extended hours for glacier trekking. The warmth melts the snowy peaks and exposes a new landscape to Sheldon Chalet’s backdrop.

Autumn Stars

Autumn sees the return of the aurora borealis as the midnight sun retreats for winter and the snowfall begins. The stargazing at this time of year is superb and you can take your time on the observation deck which hosts a most welcomed fire and hot beverages to keep you warm while you observe the night skies. During the day, choose form glacier trekking, crevasse exploration, epic sledding, rappelling, ice climbing (September) and rock climbing.

Winter in Denali

During the winter months from November through to January, glacier trekking and sledding are still available. The Aurora and the snowstorms make for spectacular viewing.
