Hidden in the dunes overlooking a pristine beach, this exclusive and environmentally friendly bush camp has the most isolated and stunning location. The corals and the magical underwater world of the Ningaloo Reef are just metres away.
Accommodation is in free-standing, spacious tents on raised platforms. Each has an en suite bathroom with a natureloo (state of the art composting toilet) and a solar hot water shower. Each tent has an overhead fan and a comfortable bed with fabulous views of the Indian Ocean.
It is possible to fall out of bed, feel the sand between your toes and be in a magical underwater world in moments.
A stay at Sal Salis is all about the natural wonders of the white sandy beach and magical reef sitting right on the doorstep. Additional facilities really aren’t needed, however, the camp at Sal Salis offers everything one needs for a truly comfortable and relaxing stay.
With a coral reef on the doorstep and incredibly enthusiastic guides, Ningaloo is one of the best places on earth to see and swim with whale sharks and manta rays. The area is also visited by a range of whale and dolphin species. Humpback whales migrate through the Marine Park from May to October each year and the reef is also visited by dwarf minke whales, orcas, pygmy blue whales, Bryde’s whales, Australian humpback dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, spinner dolphins and southern right whales.
Boat trips, kayaking and fishing trips can be arranged as well as excursions to the Cape Range National Park, a place of rugged limestone ranges, deep canyons and 50 kilometres of pristine beaches. Wildlife is abundant with a variety of birds, emus and red kangaroos commonly sighted.
Should you just wish to relax, there is a shaded area on the beach with sun loungers and an icebox filled with cold drinks.
In the evening after dinner, sit back on the Whale Deck and look up – the number of stars is simply astonishing and the location is known to be one of the best places to see the Milky Way. The lodge guides will bring to life the myriad of stars and point out the many different constellations filling the night sky.
Sal Salis is closed from 01 November through to mid-March every year.
This environmentally friendly bush camp occupies the most isolated and stunning beach location and does everything possible to minimise its impact on the surrounding environment; it is almost 100% solar powered, chemical free amenities are used, all tents have composting toilets and any waste generated is carefully disposed of.
