With only six chalet-type suites, RockFig Safari Lodge is ideal for exclusive-use bookings for families or groups of friends. No stone has been left unturned when creating the comfortable and luxurious suites, each with indoor and outdoor showers, a private verandah perfect for candlelit dinners and specially commissioned watercolour paintings. Lounge on the pool deck overlooking the waterhole and spend your evenings in the boma area as the firewood crackles, reminiscing on your day.

Glen and Bruce Jenkins saw the simple enjoyment their children held from the slower pace of bush life, making them realise they could offer people an opportunity to connect with South Africa’s wild places and with each other. Family spirit runs through the lodge, where the Jenkins provide guests with the kind of safari holidays that they love themselves. With just four guests per shared vehicle, every guest has a ‘window’ seat looking out onto Big Five territory; family groups get their own private vehicle.

Activities

Head out on a game drive and tune in with the Timbavati wilds and see how professional guides and trackers read the signs of the bush to anticipate the movements and behaviour of wildlife. RockFig’s custom-built game viewers are fully equipped with blankets, binoculars, reference books and refreshments.

Walking in Big Five territory can add extra excitement to the experience. Expert ranges and insightful trackers translate the tracks, signs and sounds to introduce guests to some of the smaller residents of the African bush. Once you’ve worked up an appetite on a game drive or walking safari, recoup with a delicious bush breakfast or dinner, as well as safari-style meals back at the lodge.

Sustainability

The Timbavati Foundation Environmental School is actively involved in various sustainability programs in neighbouring communities as well as outreach and education programmes in primary schools and high schools. The principles of sustainable gardening are taught as well as composting and planting trees. These permagardens that are created by pupils in the school become an important food source for the community and engineer a sense of pride and achievement.
