Stretched along a shallow lagoon that lies off the Shire River, Mvuu Lodge is positioned in the north of Liwonde National Park.

The design and location of the lodge mean that you don’t have to leave camp to see wildlife. It is truly encircled by nature. The rooms and main area face the lagoon, which is home to hippos, crocodiles, waterbuck and many other animals. During the daytime, reedbucks, bushbucks, impalas and vervet monkeys can all be seen wandering through the camp. And at night, the sound of hippos grunting echoes across the water.
Mvuu Lodge is formed of eight tented rooms, each one shaded by a thatched roof. They all face the lagoon and have wooden verandas that extend towards the water. Inside, the setup is simple but relatively spacious, with an en-suite bathroom and outdoor shower positioned behind.
The lodge’s main area is spread along the deeper part of the lagoon, close to the Shire River. The lounge is raised up, providing a lovely platform from which to look out towards the river.
Mvuu Lodge is spread along a small lagoon that juts off from the Shire River, in the northern part of Liwonde National Park. Access is either by road from the south or, if coming from the north, by boat across the Shire River. The boat ride is only a five-minute journey, but it is within the park and you have a good chance of spotting elephants, antelopes and hippos.
