Hotel Acontraluz

Valparaiso, Chile

Nestled in the heart of the colourful graffiti-filled neighbourhood of Cerro Alegre, Hotel Acontraluz is a quirky boutique hotel set high up on one of Valparaiso’s iconic hilly streets.

A number of restored architectural artefacts are interspersed throughout the property, including local adobe, oak beams and pine that would once have been brought across as ballast on board the ships sailing to Valparaiso.

Its 14 traditional rooms are furnished with antiques, and some even boast bathtubs and large balconies with views to the hilltops and bay. In lieu of an in-house restaurant, a plentiful breakfast is served in the dining room, open terrace or in the private garden, and the property also offers a spacious lounge and a novel underground bar with a wine cellar and cinema.
