Travel with Confidence

Health & Safety While Travelling

At Steppes Travel, we believe that thoughtful planning, expert local knowledge and responsible travel all play an important role in keeping you safe and well while you explore the world. We take great care in designing our holidays and in choosing the partners we work with, and we want you to feel confident and well prepared before you travel.

The information below explains what you can expect from us, and what we ask you to take responsibility for, so that you can enjoy your holiday with peace of mind.

Before You Travel

Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is essential for all Steppes holidays. Your policy should cover medical treatment, emergency evacuation, cancellation, personal belongings and any activities included in your itinerary. Please ensure your insurance is valid for the full duration of your trip.

Your Health & Wellbeing

We recommend speaking to your GP or a travel health professional well in advance of departure to check whether vaccinations or preventative medication are advised for your destination. Health guidance can change, so it is important to seek up-to-date advice.

If you have any medical conditions, allergies or mobility considerations, please let us know at the time of booking. This allows us to advise whether the holiday is suitable and to share relevant information with suppliers where appropriate. You should always ensure that you are fit to travel and comfortable with the level of activity involved.

Travel Advice & Documentation

It is your responsibility to ensure that your passport, visas and other travel documents meet entry requirements. We also recommend reviewing the latest UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) travel advice before departure and again closer to travel.

While You Are Travelling

Local Knowledge & Guidance

Your guides and local hosts are there to support you and share their expertise. Please follow their advice, as well as any instructions given by accommodation providers or local authorities. Laws, customs and standards vary between countries, and respecting these differences is part of responsible travel.

Activities & Experiences

Some experiences involve an element of risk, particularly those that are adventurous or take place in remote locations. Participation in activities is always your choice. We ask that you take part only in those you feel comfortable with and that are covered by your travel insurance, and that you follow all safety briefings and guidance provided by local operators.

Looking After Your Health

  • Simple precautions can help reduce the risk of illness:
  • Drink safe or bottled water where advised
  • Take care with food hygiene
  • Protect yourself from the sun and insects
  • Rest when needed and stay hydrated, especially in humid environments
  • If you feel unwell, seek medical advice promptly and let your guide or accommodation team know if appropriate.

Personal Safety

As with travel anywhere in the world, we recommend being aware of your surroundings, taking sensible care of valuables and following local advice on areas to avoid or precautions to take.

Accommodation & Transport

We work with carefully selected accommodation and transport providers who are expected to meet local health and safety standards. These standards may differ from those in the UK, but we choose our partners with care and monitor feedback closely.

If Something Goes Wrong

If you experience a medical or safety-related issue while travelling, please take the following steps:

  • Contact local emergency services immediately if required
  • Inform your guide or accommodation team, who can provide local support and assistance
  • Contact your travel insurance provider as soon as possible

Steppes Travel also provides 24/7 emergency support. A member of the Steppes Travel team is always on duty outside office hours and can be contacted using the emergency number provided in your travel documents. In addition, our trusted local partners in each destination are on hand to assist you on the ground and help coordinate support where needed.

We will do everything reasonably possible to support you and to help resolve any issues that arise during your holiday.

Our Shared Responsibility

We take responsibility for arranging the services included in your holiday with reasonable care and skill, in line with the Package Travel Regulations. At the same time, travel involves personal choices and environments beyond our direct control, and we ask that you take responsibility for your own wellbeing and follow local advice throughout your journey.

If you have any questions or concerns about health and safety, please speak to your Steppes Travel Expert before you travel — we are always happy to help.
