Many tour operators give the impression of choice when, in reality, they rely on the same routes, partners and pre-set itineraries. Our way, the Steppes way, differs from the industry norm: who you speak to, how your trip is built and the impact it leaves. Those are our points of distinction.
Who you speak to
The Norm
Our Way
You call a general sales desk and the conversation centres on availability and price, with recent field experience the exception rather than the rule. Advice often defaults to the same handful of properties and routes, and the person you speak to is rarely the one who actually oversees your trip.
You speak to a named consultant who has recent field time and direct contacts on the ground. One travel expert who listens, designs and follows through so the advice you get reflects personal experience, not a script.
How our trips are built
The Norm
Our Way
Your ‘tailor made’ quote lands in a day because it starts life as a template. Dates change, room types swap, a transfer is added, but the itinerary’s bones remain the same. Sales targets and shareholder requirements are met and trade-offs are hidden rather than explained, leaving you without the information to decide what matters most.
You tell us your priorities, then we do our homework. We test routes and timings against the realities on the ground and present clear choices, with costs and consequences, so that the final itinerary is uniquely yours. And we are privately owned and fully independent; the only factors that shape a Steppes holiday are what you want, your budget and what is best for you.
The impact you'll leave
The Norm
Our Way
Sustainability is often a postscript: a green badge, an optional offset at checkout or a single community visit tacked on to fit a supplier itinerary. Supplier selection tends to privilege availability and margin, whilst reporting on outcomes is rare.
When you travel with Steppes, you become the difference. We vet partners for environmental and social outcomes, offset flights and direct a portion of every booking to our Steppes Fund for Change. We publish where that money goes so you can see the positive impact of the choices you made.
So, when you travel with us, the planning can take a bit longer. That is because getting it right is always worth the wait. And sometimes we seem a little more expensive; but real value, the value we deliver, rarely comes cheap.
