Thailand Highlights Holiday

Bangkok, Northern Landscapes & Southen Beaches

14 days

from £2,670pp (excluding flights)

With some insider knowledge a visit to Thailand is as exhilarating, rewarding and fulfilling as it ever was. The 'Land of Smiles' with bustling Bangkok, the remote hill tribes and elephants of the north and the irresistible southern beaches, Thailand should still be considered as a must visit destination.

  • Explore the canals of Bangkok by private long tailed boat
  • Learn to 'drive' an elephant on a Mahout course in Chiang Rai
  • Visit an indigenous Hill Tribe village in the Golden Triangle
  • Relax on the idyllic beaches of the southern islands

Start your Thailand holiday amidst the canals and Temples of Bangkok. This vibrant city is bursting with sites, from the soaring spires of the Grand Palace to the explosion of colour at the flower market and the constantly busy waterways, teeming with barges and boats going about their daily business. Continue north to the Golden Triangle and the cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai to experience a more rural side of Thailand with hill tribe villages, lush scenery and the chance to interact with elephants. No trip to Thailand would be complete without some time to relax on a white sandy beach and Phuket offers some of the best in the country. The perfect trip for a first time visit to Thailand.

If you enjoy cities then Bangkok is a must when visiting Thailand. Busy, hectic and sometimes overwhelming it is a true attack on the senses. Glittering temples vie for space with modern skyscrapers and hotels, while quiet back lanes carry the sounds of every day life.

Day 4

Fly Bangkok to Chiang Rai

Known as the gateway to the Golden Triangle, Chiang Rai was founded in 1262 by King Mengrai as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom. Wat Pra Keow in Chiang Rai was once home to the famed 'Emerald Buddha' now residing at Wat Pra Keow in the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Chiang Rai itself is situated in a valley and the mountains in the surrounding area are home to many people of the various ethnic minority 'hill tribe' groups. It is possible to arrange treks into the nearby mountains to visit the villages where these people still live a basic lifestyle, albeit one that is changing rapidly.

Day 5

Full Days Sightseeing in Chiang Rai
Venture out for a full day exploring this northern region. Visit the Opium Museum, looking into the infamous history of this regions former role in the opium trade, explore the Golden Triangle with Lanna Hill Tribe villages, speed up the Mekong on a private long tailed boat to the walled city of Chiang Saen and most importantly learn more about the majestic Asian Elephant. The best way to do this is become a Mahout, learn how to 'drive' these wonderful animals, trek through the local jungle and finish with a dip in the river, the elephants favourite part of the day.

Day 6

Travel from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai

Driven from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai, a drive of around four hours. En route stop for lunch and at local sites.

The capital of the North, Chiang Mai, is a wonderful small city, yet increasingly busy city with a history spanning more than 700 years old. Sitting in a beautiful valley, surrounded by farmland, orchards and forested mountains, Chiang Mai still retains a charm of its own.

Visitors to Chiang Mai are sure to find themselves busy exploring old temples, bustling markets, and mountain top temples, such as Wat Prathat Doi Suthep. The streets and lanes are lined with shops selling a fantastic range of goods and of course the famous night bazaar is a great place to explore.
