Tailor-Made Holiday

Tanzania - Bush Rover Suites Migration Safari

Encounter wildebeests and zebras in the Serengeti

8 days

from £4,495pp (excluding flights)

Travel to the banks of the Mara River in the northern Serengeti, to see this landscape come alive with hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras. Between July and September, stay in a new Bush Rover Suite, perfectly positioned next to a crossing point on the river.

  • Witness the greatest migration on Earth, away from the crowds
  • Discover the beautiful landscape of the northern Serengeti
  • Watch as wildebeests and zebras surge across the Mara River
  • Stay in a Bush River Suite – a comfortable tent on top of a specially converted Land Rover

Stay in a Bush Rover Suite, in a private campsite on the Mara River. These remarkable new tented suites are built onto a Land Rover body, which forms the bathroom below. Innovative and practical, they provide an elevated position from which to look out over the landscape – unlike more traditional mobile camps.

The campsite on the Mara River is found beside a crossing point for the migration, within sight of the tents. This means that that crossings can sometimes been seen from the tents themselves, simply by sitting on the balcony.

Furthermore, the area is beyond the larger crossing points, in a part of the Serengeti that is away from the crowds. This makes for a quieter, less disturbed experience, with the freedom to explore this magnificent landscape.

The Bush Rovers themselves act simply as a place to sleep and relax, with game drives done in a normal 4x4 vehicle, driven by an expert guide. Spend time in search of the wildlife that inhabits this kopje-dotted landscape, including lions, cheetahs, leopards and antelopes.

Why We Like It

The unique location of the Bush Rover camp and the elevated nature of the tents make this an experience to rival anything on offer in the Serengeti during migration season.

However, the flexible nature of the Bush Rover Suites (they can be assembled in three hours) is also an added bonus. Unlike with traditional seasonal camps, the Bush Rover Suites can move to a more suitable campsite, if the migration changes its schedule or route, which often happens.

Day 3

Days at the Bush Rover Mara River Camp
This camp, facing a crossing point on the Mara River, offers wildlife on its doorstep, with the wildebeests and zebras visible from the Bush Rover Suites. However, you also have the freedom to explore by 4x4, driven by a highly trained guide.

Set out on early morning and late afternoon game drives, when the wildlife is at its most active, exploring this quieter area of the popular northern Serengeti. This kopje-dotted landscape, with its lush grassy plains, abounds with wildlife. The vast numbers of migrating herbivores attract predators in the form of well-fed prides of lions, whilst the resulting carrion draws in the scavengers, including hyenas.

Meanwhile, the mixture of plains and hills provides habitat for both cheetahs and leopards, which prey on the numerous antelope species that roam this fertile landscape. Elephants can also be spotted, whilst there is a small chance of encountering one of the handful of rhinos that still survive in the area close to the Kenyan border.

Jackie Devereux, Travel Expert

"Every part of our trip was the highlight and it is not possible for us to point out just one thing, event or place."

"However, we received a magnificent surprise of a helicopter ride between camps in Botswana which meant a flight over the delta and an opportunity to see the delta and how it is formed. It was a wonderful surprise organised by Jackie and we were both absolutely overjoyed with the opportunity. I do not believe that there was more that could have been done as we had a magnificent trip."

"Jackie was excellent- she listened and was very knowledgeable."
