Noel Rodrigo's Leopard Safaris is the award-winning safari outfit found in Yala National Park. This non-permanent camp prides itself, and rightly so, on their guides having been founded by Noel Rodrigo in 2006 after 35 years tracking leopard in the park.
Customised African style tents, equipped with king size beds, private bathrooms and comfy areas to sit and have a drink and discuss the days wildlife spotting.
With customised 4x4s for exciting game drives, of which two are included daily, delicious food and drinks served in the fire-lit campsite by the welcoming team and children being taught animal identification all go into making the few days spent in Yala comfortable but most importantly authentic.
why we like it
We love the standard of guiding. Leopards are a particular area of expertise for Noel and his team and it is here they provide support to the Leopard Project, part of the Wilderness & Wildlife Conservation Trust. This gives guests an insight into the conservation and habitat of this elusive cat while being looked after in a warm and hospitable camp.
Noel Rodrigo Leopard Safari’s will be adding a salt water eco pool to their Yala campsite, which should be complete by the end of July 2017. Guests will be able to cool down and spend time swimming during the heat of the day and between game drives. This is a hybrid pool made from an upcycled shipping container (await photos – it looks nicer than it sounds), which can easily be removed from the campsite without harming the environment.
