A 15 minute walk from the coast, Why House offers a tranquil hideaway set amidst a rural rice paddy. The stunning beaches of the south coast and the UNESCO town of Galle are just a 15 minute drive away.
An idyllic inland location near Galle’s sultry coastline allows Why House to offer its guests the best of both worlds: a tranquil setting amidst rural rice fields and easy access to picture-postcard beaches, a mere five-minutes’ drive away.
Why House sleeps a maximum of 20 guests in eight double ensuite rooms with private garden- or pool-view terraces. Each individually designed room comes with air conditioning, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, mini fridge and a luxurious ensuite bathroom. Individual rooms, or the Main House and Garden House in their entirety, can be booked independently, or the whole property taken on an exclusive basis. The seven spacious and luxurious suites are spread across two separate buildings whilst two cottagey cabanas overlook the paddy fields. Set in lush gardens, facilities include an open-sided dining pavilion, an elegant lounge and a jade-green swimming pool.
This country-style hotel attracts couples, families and groups, who adore its relaxed, home-from-home ambience. Each guestroom is elegantly designed, and the classic-colonial ebony and ivory-hued interior and exterior living and dining areas are at once sumptuous, comfortable and refined.
Why House is ideally located for exploring Galle and the region's sandy beaches, and for embarking on seasonal whale watching, diving, surfing and snorkelling expeditions. The colonial hybrid fort of Galle is just 15-minutes away, and is a richly historic cosmopolitan enclave home to centuries-old buildings, as well as museums, cafes and shops. Other activities include guided bike rides, lowland tea estate visits and boat rides on Koggala Lake. Spa therapists carry out in-room treatments at the hotel, and they also offer customised Sri Lankan cookery demonstrations.
Why House is located in Mihiripenna, 15-minutes' drive from the historic UNESCO-certified Galle Fort. The hotel's location is private and tranquil, yet pristine beaches are just a few minutes' walk away. As a destination, south coast Galle has it all: a sandy coastline, fragrant tea and spice plantations, ancient temples and lakes. Udawalawe National Park, famous for elephants, makes for an easy day trip while Colombo's international airport is a two-and-a-half-hour drive away or one-hour domestic flight.
why we like it
We love its location. Why House offers the best of both worlds. There is easy access to Galle and the beaches; however, visitors dwell in a more rural and peaceful setting where they feel truly submersed in the Sri Lankan countryside.
