Nkomazi Game Reserve

The Nkomazi Game reserve is situated just south west of the Kruger National Park, just a three hour drive from Johannesburg or an hour from the Main Kruger airport. Nkomazi encompasses beautiful savannah plains, ancient mountains and riverine forests.

The reserve is not only home to an abundance of endemic Highveld wildlife species including four of the big five but also boasts unique ancient San rock art sites and incredible star gazing opportunities. The 10 tents of the Kumati Lodge are the only accommodation within the whole reserve making a stay here very private. Each tented suite boasts campaign style furniture, an extra-large bed, ensuite bathroom, sundeck and plunge pool with a view. Activities on the reserve include guided day and evening game drives, walking safaris, rock art and star viewing, fishing and mountain biking. The river retreat Spa adds another dimension.

Why we like Nkomazi Game Reserve

Nkomazi Game Reserve is an easy drive form Johannesburg and is Malaria free. It offers a complete safari experience with some great wildlife viewing. The reserve only has one lodge and so you will have very private safaris free from queuing as sometimes happens in the Sabi sands. Include the diversity of activities and a four-night stay will be all the safari you need. The short drive to the airport at Nelspruit ensures you can easily get from Nkomazi to Cape Town, Zambia or even Mozambique. Alternatively, you can start your safari with Nkomazi and then go on to the Kruger and Timbavati or with the new scheduled flights, Nkomazi can be combined with the other Malaria free favourites like Ants Nest, Madikwe and Marataba.
