Formerly a colonial farm, Roca Sundy has been lovingly restored as a boutique hotel. It is made up of two Portuguese-style buildings - Colonial House and Plantation house - with the 12 rooms split evenly between the two.
These sit within the grounds of the former plantation, which itself perches on a hillside, high above the island's coast.
Why We Like It
This relaxed hotel manages to retain its original character, whilst also having been beautifully renovated and redecorated in a colourful style. This mix of modernity and history makes for a lovely boutique feel.
The hotel is well positioned to explore this tiny island. Available activities include:
- Guided tours of Principe Island
- Tours of the plantation
- Community visits
- Turtle and bird watching
- Guided biosphere trails
- Non-guided walking trails
Rooms are beautifully decorated in a colourful and modern style, which complements the colonial fittings and design. Cool and spacious, they all have en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning. Every room has a balcony with sea views, as well as access to Roca Sundy’s lush gardens. The in-house restaurant serves a mix of Creole-inspired dishes, using local ingredients.
Roca Sundy is located close to Principe’s northern coastline, sitting in rainforest-covered hills that rise up from the sea. It is about eight kilometres from the island’s tiny capital, Santo Antonio.
