Russia’s largest city and its capital, Moscow is a modern metropolis with a medieval core. At its heart is the Kremlin, an iconic symbol of Russia which sits alongside the coloured domes of the spectacular St Basils Cathedral.

Spend three nights in the city with plenty of time to explore the highlights, from Red Square to the Tretyakov Gallery before boarding the Volga Dream to begin cruising.


Depart Moscow and spend a day cruising through forested countryside before arriving at the Golden Ring town of Uglich. Over the next three days explore the ancient churches and monasteries of these traditional Russian towns. From Uglich cruise to Yaroslavl and lastly Goritsy.


On day eight of your journey approach the island of Kizhi, home to a collection of charming wooden houses and windmills plus the ancient Transfiguration Church which was famously built in 1714 without using a single nail. The island itself sits amidst the spectacular watery wilderness of Kareliya which stretches from St Petersburg to the Arctic Circle and is dotted with 1,369 islands.


Before arriving in St Petersburg cruise the 139-mile-long Svir River, a peaceful and picturesque stretch of water. Visit the village of Mandrogi to learn about traditional crafts before continuing to St Petersburg. Spend three days exploring this fascinating and romantic city. Take in the gardens and fountains of Peterhof, the treasures of the Hermitage Museum and Catherine the Greats Palace, to name a few.


Volga Dream offers three slightly different cruise packages – Gold, Platinum or Imperial. The difference between the three programmes is the sightseeing included. The platinum programme includes luxury add-ons and the imperial programme includes some tours not available to the general public. Please ask for more detailed information.

Day 1

Fly London to Moscow

The ancient city of Moscow is the focal point of modern Russia and everything that it has come to represent. It is a city where history unfolds around every corner, whether in the shape of the magnificent golden domed cathedrals and churches, or the historic and instantly-recognisable Kremlin. With a rich history and an insatiable hunger to embrace global modernity, Moscow is a compelling city.

Arrive Moscow
Upon arrival in Moscow, transfer to your hotel. This evening gather for a warm-up meeting with your guide (available at the hotel lobby from 6pm to 9pm) or spend the rest of the day exploring central Moscow at your leisure.

Day 2

Moscow Sightseeing
Begin the day with an orientation city tour of Moscow and proceed to the famous Novodevichi Cemetery which holds the tombs of Russian authors, musicians, playwrights, and poets, as well as famous actors, political leaders, and scientists.

The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to explore Moscow on your own or seek out a cultural performance at one of the cities renowned venues.

City tour includes: Red Square walking tour, St. Basil's Cathedral, GUM Department Store, Cathedral of Christ the Savior & Novodevichy Cemetery.

Day 3

Moscow Sightseeing
This morning enter the Kremlin for a visit to the Armoury Museum to view its collection of opulent coronation finery, hand-forged armour and weapons, royal carriages and sleighs. Continue to the beautifully frescoed 15th-century Assumption and Archangel cathedrals.

The balance of the day is at leisure for independent exploration or optional tours of your choice.

Day 4

Sightseeing & Embarkation on the Volga Dream
This morning is free to spend at your leisure.

At noon, check-out from your hotel and proceed to Tretyakov Gallery, the first museum dedicated exclusively to Russian fine art. Explore Moscow’s Metro, known for its architectural splendour and transfer to the MS Volga Dream to begin sailing along the Russian waterways. Gather for the Captain's welcome reception and dinner as the cruise begins.

Day 5

Cruising to Uglich
After a full day cruising through forested countryside, dock in the ancient trading town of Uglich, one of the spokes of Russia's renowned Golden Ring. Explore the impressive church of St. Dmitri-on-the-Blood, erected on the site where Dmitri, son of Ivan the Terrible, was murdered in 1591 and attend an enchanting concert of choral music at St. John's Church.

On board this evening there will be a documentary film "Construction of the Moscow Canal".

Day 6

Cruise to Yaroslavl
250km north-east of Moscow, Yaroslavl is a quiet old town that was founded in 1010 and is one of the oldest cities in central Russia. In the Spassky Monastery see the Transfiguration of the Savior and admire the mosaics at the Church of Elijah the Prophet. Take part in a costumed reception at the governors house, and then re-board the MS Volga Dream in time for lunch.

Yaroslavl is a large, quiet town, more metropolitan than the other cities on the Golden Ring. Legend has it that Yaroslavl the Wise, a Kievian prince, was interested in a trading post here; the locals responded by setting a bear on him, which Yaroslavl killed and then founded a town on the spot, the symbol of the bear was then included on his coat of arms. The Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour was founded in the 12th century, and was one of Russia's richest and most fortified monasteries.

Day 7

Cruise to Goritsy
In the tiny settlement of Goritsy, visit the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, founded in 1397 it is home to one of the best collections of Russian icons in the world. After a guided tour, continue cruising towards the majestic Lake Onega.

Onboard this evening there will be a Russian dinner with vodka tasting.

Day 8

Cruise to Kizhi
The Kareliya region, which spans the area from St.Petersburg to the Arctic Circle, is a vast wilderness of forest and water. Discover Lake Onega, fed by 58 rivers and home to 1,369 islands including Kizhi. See a collection of ancient Russian wooden houses and windmills and the Transfiguration church, built in 1714 without a single nail.

On board this evening there will be a piano concert with pieces by Tchaikovsky and Rakhmaninov.

Day 9

Cruise along the Svir River
While cruising along the 139 mile long Svir River, pass through quiet understated beauty of a region that has long inspired artists and poets. The ship will pass quaint riverside hamlets before reaching Lake Ladoga. Step ashore for a brief visit to the vacation village of Mandrogi to experience daily life in a wooden village.

Day 10

Arrival into St Petersburg
A morning arrival into St Petersburg via the Neva River. Disembark the MS Volga Dream, before commencing your city tour of St Petersburg including a visit to Peter and Paul fortress, burial place of the Romanov monarchs and Nevsky Prospekt, where fine shops, cafes and museums are found. Following lunch, enter the renowned Hermitage musem, home to one of the most important collections of European art in the world.

This evening check into your hotel.

Extolled by many great Russian poets and artists, St Petersburg was the capital of Russia before the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution and is today regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Cosmopolitan and cultured, Russia's former capital city boasts an architectural identity and Bohemian ambience unique to the city. It is a dazzling place, and it is easy to see why it is known to some as 'Northern Venice'.

Day 11

St Petersburg Sightseeing
Begin today at the meticulously restored Peterhof, St. Petersburg’s most famous and spectacular Imperial estate, often cited as the Versailles of Russia. Visit the authentic Bath Cottage and stroll in the vast Lower Park with 176 fountains of various forms and styles and four cascades, majestic palaces and numerous gilded statues of ancient gods and heroes.

The balance of the day is at leisure for independent exploration.

Day 12

St Petersburg Sightseeing
This morning travel to Catherine the Great’s Palace, which houses the extraordinary Amber Room, its six tons of solid amber deftly carved and framed in gold leaf. Once deemed the eighth wonder of the world, the room was stripped by the Nazis in 1941, but majestically reconstructed in honour of St. Petersburg’s 300th birthday.

After lunch at Podvorie, a restaurant in a traditional Russian log house, return to St. Petersburg and visit the Faberge museum, which contains the world's largest collection of works by Carl Faberge, including 9 Easter eggs commissioned by the Russian royal family.

Depart St Petersburg
This morning check out from your hotel and transfer to the airport for your flight.
