Originally opened in 1925, El Albergue is a historic lodge with lots of character and charm. Located in Ollantaytambo next to the train station, little more than an hour away from Machu Picchu.
With only 17 rooms, a special detail is given to each one, resulting in an elegantly rustic style. There are beautiful gardens have been designed to attract hummingbirds with fuchsia, passionflower, peach trees and avocado trees. There is a wood stove eucalyptus steam sauna, a restaurant and coffee shop on the station as well as organic gardens, a distillery and coffee roaster on site.
Why We Like El Albergue
The property has lots of character, fantastic views from the balcony rooms and is close enough to walk into Ollantaytambo, one of the best preserved Inca towns in Peru, before the crowds arrive.
Visit the nearby Inca town of Ollantaytambo with narrow cobbled streets and huge archaeological ruins, take the train to Machu Picchu or simply relax in a hammock and drink some freshly roasted organic coffee. Visit the organic farm next door to the hotel, the coffee roasting facility and Andean distillery, all of which offer tastings.
