I have had a passion for travel from a young age and I guess I really caught the travel bug at university, where I studied international tourism. At any given opportunity I found myself visiting somewhere new, whether it be a short break in Europe or a longer trip further afield. For me, travelling means adventure; meeting new people, trying new foods and experiencing the contrast of cultures compared with home.
Destinations I have visited vary immensely from the peaceful beaches in Thailand to the hustle and bustle of the souks in Marrakech. Since joining Steppes Travel, I have also been lucky enough to visit India and Sri Lanka, both of which are fascinating countries and sparked my love for the Indian subcontinent. My mind is always wondering where in the world I can go next and there is still so much more I want to explore!
To say that I was excited when I was told that I was going to Sri Lanka was an understatement – since I was a young girl, I have always been fascinated by Sri Lanka and its leopards. Even the gentle teasing of the office could not diminish my anticipation.
This is a difficult one but a hotel that stands out for me is Ulagalla in Sri Lanka. It is a beautiful restored Manor House located near the world heritage site of Anuradhapura. The rooms are spread out over beautiful green, lush terrain and there are small lagoons surrounding them. Bikes are provided to explore the area, a fond memory is cycling through the local village and stopping along the way to talk to children who had heard the bikes coming!
