Oman Holidays & Tours

Providing a fantastic choice for adults and children alike, a holiday to Oman offers huge diversity from relaxing beaches to adventures into the mountains and desert. The hotels are superb and, as Oman is a relatively small country, it is easy to venture out on day excursions or longer more varied trips away from Muscat without incurring long, uncomfortable road journeys.

Why we like Oman

Oman is squeaky clean (it is a fineable offence to have a dirty car), safe and organised but still reminds you that you’re in Arabia. The weather is consistently good much of the year and it is only a relatively short flight from the UK. Plus, it is possible to be met air-side off the plane in Muscat, to receive assistance with the visa process, and more importantly, with bags and children.

Oman Hotel Offers and Specials

Oman has some exceptional hotels with excellent offers currently available, providing great savings on travel to Oman. Shangri La, Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara, Zighy Bay, Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort and The Chedi Muscat are just a few of these hotels. Please enquire with our travel experts.

our Select Experiences

Cruise the lesser-known Musandam peninsula: Some of Oman's most glorious coastline can be found around the Musandam peninsula, where you'll find pretty inlets with great diving and snorkelling possibilities.

Camp in the desert: Stay in a Bedouin-style camp in Wahiba Sands - a four-hour drive south of Muscat.

Stay the night on Khalouf Beach with Hud Hud: The wide sands of Khalouf are a perfect place to enjoy the warm seas of Oman's Indian Ocean. A five-hour drive south of Muscat, it is a remote part of the country with sand dunes, fishermen and their huts and a vibrant bird population which includes flamingos and eagles.

Trek in the mountains: The dramatic Al Hajar range divides Muscat and Nizwa, and with peaks rising to almost 3,000 metres it is a popular destination for active holidays.

Visit Nizwa and Bahla forts: An hour or two south-west of Muscat lies Nizwa, home to the enormous 17th century Nizwa Fort - the most visited monument in Oman. A little farther west you will find Bahla Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 13th century.

Sail on a traditional dhow: A cruise on a traditional dhow is another popular option for visitors. There is even a chance you'll spot dolphins.

Go shopping in Muscat: For the most authentic shopping experience, visit the old souk at Muttrah, just outside the town.

Go walking: Wadi Shab is a picturesque canyon of caves, waterfalls and pools just off the Muscat-Sur coastal highway. A little farther north lies the Bimmah Sinkhole, a stunning bathing spot that is also open to tourists.

Explore the Empty Quarter: The Empty Quarter is the largest sand desert in the world. Options include camel treks and "dune bashing" - racing through the otherworldly landscape on quad bikes.

Charter a private yacht: Whale watching trips are growing in popularity off the coast of Muscat and in southern Oman near Salalah.

World class golf: Include a round of golf during your stay in Muscat at the Almouj Golf 18-hole golf course.

Oman FAQs

Collapse all
Is there an etiquette to photographing people?
Being a conservative country, when photographing people you must ask before hand to ensure you do not cause offence. To ask “May I take you picture?” in Arabic is Mumkin sura, min fadlak? (To a man) or Mumkin sura, min fadlik? (To a woman).
Is it ok to drink alcohol in public?
The short answer is no. Alcohol is only available at licensed bars and restaurants (and usually found in hotels), and should only be consumed at these locations. Some camps and smaller hotels do allow you to bring your own and this can be organised before hand.
Can I use my mobile phone in Oman?
Roaming agreements exist with a few international mobile phone companies, but these can be expensive. It is possible to purchase a local sim card which will be cheaper when making local and international calls.
Phones are available at most hotels and restaurants. Phoning from any hotel room can be very expensive, enquire at the reception.
Can I rent a car in Oman?
Yes, renting a car is a great way of getting off the beaten track and the majority of the roads are 'black top'. Getting up the mountains needs a permit and a 4x4 vehicle. Driving in the desert requires some skill.
How should I dress when sightseeing?
Oman is a moderate, yet conservative country so always best to wear sleeves below the elbow and bottoms below the knee to show respect to the local culture. A head scarf for woman is required for the mosque and long trousers for men.
Can I wear a swimming costume on local beaches?
Yes, while staying at a hotel normal swimwear if fine. The beaches are public so you may feel more comfortable wearing a full piece and having some sort of cover up to wear over.
Can I eat out in Oman?
Most of the decent restaurants are in Muscat and the majority of those within hotels. Outside the capital the food is pretty basic and some places are not overly clean. When travelling through the country a picnic is often a good option.
