Founded in 1524 on the shores of mighty Lake Nicaragua it is full of history and Spanish colonial charm - this was one of the first European settlements in the western hemisphere. Conception Volcano Hike to El Floral Look-out Point
Concepción is one of the two volcanoes that form the island of Ometepe, which is situated in Lake Nicaragua. The barren summit of Volcano Concepción (1610 m) is evidence of its active state. The Concepción is Nicaragua's second highest volcano and one of the most perfectly shaped volcanos of the Americas. The symmetrical cone is an ever-present feature towering over the north-western part of Ometepe Island. An early start is needed for your hiking adventure to the look out point sitting at 1,000 metres, around half way up the volcano. Taking around seven hours in total, the trek is low to moderate in difficulty so a reasonable level is fitness is required. The first part of the trek leads through dense forest leading to a steeper and more challenging part of the climb, hopefully with some rewarding sightings of monkeys and birdlife. The views from the look out can be far reaching on a clear day. The descent will be via a slightly different trail.
