Arrival Day at Gurung Lodge
Take a short spectacular 25 minute flight to Pokhara. If the weather is clear, your route follows the mountain range to the Annapurna Himalaya. Following a briefing when you meet your guide, you are driven by 4 wheel drive vehicle to the Gurung lodge. This is situated at 1450m or 4785ft. The lodge is built along the lines of a traditional Nepalese village. Every room has spectacular views of the surrounding valley and mountains. Drive time to the Lodge is just 2 hours. After lunch at the lodge, you will be escorted to the local village of Tanchok. There will be a talk at a local house, now made into a museum. The contents of the house illustrate how the local people live, together with the tools and implements of day to day traditional village life.

A relatively small city and known as one of the main gateways to the Himalayas, Pokhara is one of the most popular destinations in Nepal. Visitors are greeted by the stunning Mt Machhapuchhre, which looms large and reflects in the still waters of Lake Taal. Activities in Pokhara would include hiring a boat on the lake (Phewa Tal), which is the second largest in Nepal. Pokhara has an interesting old area as well as an elaborate Hindu temple and a Buddhist monastery. The lakeside area has good shopping opportunities and internet cafés. In the evening there is the option to dine out at one of the many fine lakeside restaurants .

Activities from Gurung Lodge
After a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, there are a number of options available including relaxing in the lodge surroundings watching the mountains including Annapurna South and the surrounding peaks or you can take a short walk to another local viewpoint and village. Lunch will be at the lodge. This will be followed by a short walk to the local school where the headmaster will talk about the local education system. Guests may wish to leave pens or make a small donation to the school. Either would be much appreciated and will be used by the school for education purposes.

You will also have time to explore this village. You then continue by vehicle for a further hour or so to the 3 mountain lodge which is located on a small ridge at an altitude of 1011m or 3316ft. After settling into your room and having a hot shower, drinks will be served around the central fireplace. Dinner will be served in the dining room.

Day 6

Activities from Three Mountain Lodge
You will be woken with a cup of tea or coffee at your room. If the mountains are clear, you can sit on your private veranda and enjoy the spectacular mountain ranges of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu. After breakfast set off to visit two local schools and the villages in which they are located. En route, we pass large orange groves. To date few tourists have visited this area so it retains much of its charm. Many Gurkhas have been recruited from these villages over the years and you will also visit the house of one of these retired Gurkhas.

Day 7

Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (Road Journey)

Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal - a heady and extravagant tangle of contrasts. Rapidly developing and almost alarmingly hectic, Kathmandu is a city to awake the senses, but it is not without its spiritual and cultural side. The old quarter's back streets, while still teeming with life and an array of smells from spices to incense, offer a more colourful side to the city.

Departure Day
After breakfast, leave the lodge and drive back to Kathmandu where you arrive in the early afternoon. Lunch will be at a roadside restaurant overlooking a beautiful river. On the way back to the hotel we will visit Boudinath Stupa which is home to some 10000 Tibetans. The surrounding area has an array of craft and local tea shops.

"It was extremely helpful to work in conjunction with Joe and his much more up to date knowledge of India and arrive at an itinerary which we were happy with. We enjoyed the whole trip and probably what made it special for us was the fact that all the arrangements worked so well and we really didn’t have to worry about anything at all. Even when we decided to make a small change it was dealt with efficiently and promptly. We can't think of anything that would have made our trip more enjoyable."

Kate Hitchen, Travel Expert

"Kate was calm and bent over backwards to accommodate my jitters about going to Kashmir in the light of tighter FCO guidelines just a few days before our departure. She was absolutely correct in advising against what I thought we should do. Several times during the holiday we said that, 'Kate was dead right about that!'."

"We asked for a rather particular kind of Indian holiday. You delivered it in full. Highlights? Honestly, each day was a highlight in itself. "
