Casablanca & Rabat

If doing a longer trip to Morocco it is often useful to fly into one airport and out of another. Start your holiday in Casablanca to avoid retracing your steps and the chance to include some of the country’s less visited cities.

Although not the prettiest of Morocco’s cities Casablanca is the modern, commercial centre of the country and has some of the best boutique shops and art galleries. It is also home to Hassan II Mosque, with its tranquil waterside setting and space to house over 100,000 worshippers this ornate and impressive mosque, is one of the largest in the world.

Nearby is the country’s capital city of Rabat, with its coastal location, tree lined boulevards, colonial architecture and peaceful medina this gem of a city if often overlooked but has a rich history which is displayed in some of the many fascinating monuments.

  • Spend a few hours taking in the ornate decoration and sheer size of Casablanca's Hassan II Mosque
  • Travel from Casablanca to Fez via Rabat, Meknes and Volubilis
  • Explore the atmospheric and crumbling ruins of the Roman city of Cellah
  • Enter the enormous ornate gate of Bab Oudaia and wander the narrow streets of Rabat’s Kasbah, a peaceful and picturesque part of the city.

Visit the Moroccan Museum of Money in Rabat. This museum cum art gallery displays coinage and notes from the Roman period through to present day as well as a large collection of varied artworks and makes for an unusual and interesting addition to a holiday.
