Key Highlights of this Itinerary

Snorkelling, Maldives 1

Finding Nemo

The warm, clean and safe water makes it perfect for children to swim and snorkel in the shallows.

The Den, Soneva Fushi, Maldives 2

Children's Club

Take advantage of a children’s club or activities for older children.

Buggy in Maldives, Maldives 3

Reassurance

The Islands have no cars, apart from the odd golf buggy, so safe and secure for children to roam.

Sandbank, Soneva Fushi, Maldives 4

Pampering

Book a babysitter for an hour or two and head to the spa or the beach with a good book.

Why we like it

The Maldives has shrugged off its image of catering only for loved up honeymooners. Today you can find pockets of paradise delightfully invaded by children. The one-hotel, one-island model gives children an unrivalled sense of freedom, a rare and wonderful thing in today’s security-conscious world of worries. We can help you make the right choice, depending on your family and personal interests. Create a holiday that encourages curiosity, learning about sea conservation with a marine biologist. Mix this up with the kids club, a swim in the sea and meeting your new besties at the pool you have a winning combination.

Fun at Soneva Fushi

For this family holiday, we’ve suggested Soneva Fushi but other options to consider are the Four Seasons Resorts, Constance Halaveli and the One and Only Reethi Rah.

Soneva Fushi go all out for families. The Den is strictly children only, complete with Lego, fancy dress, cinema, and mocktail bar. Outside a slide leads to a pool and a zip wire, Tarzan style, into the jungle!

Child's Play

There is so much beyond the beach. Aside from excellent standards of service and food, there are the most imaginative and inspiring children’s programmes going, including dolphin trips with marine biologists, coral adoption schemes, resident artists offering painting classes and all manner of child-friendly water sports. Children can tear around the island on bicycles – all shapes and sizes with or without stabilisers.

Under the water, join a marine biologist on a guided snorkelling trip to find Nemo and his friends. On the water take a private boat to a small uninhabited island for a Robinson Crusoe style BBQ.

Diving Experiences for Families

The PADI Bubblemaker course is a fun first diving experience and the best way to introduce your older children to scuba diving. (From eight years and above.) Soneva Fushi is home to a fabulous house reef and if you have water babies amongst you it will be the star attraction. The sea is calm and the Soleni Dive Centre is superb. A gentle two or three metres down the children will be spotting reef fish. Don’t forget the GoPro to capture your child’s first underwater adventure!

If your child is hooked, the PADI Seal Team is also available from age eight upwards, goes towards completing their Open Water course.

When to travel

The Maldives is a year-round destination, and the best season to visit the Maldives is between November and April. With both low rainfall and humidity, the perfect time to visit is February, perfect for half term sun.

Diving conditions are generally good all year round but can become choppier in May and June. However, June in the Maldives is a great time for those who want to discover more marine life in this Indian Ocean paradise. As it is the beginning of the monsoon season, the huge increase in plankton draws in hundreds of whale sharks and manta rays to the region.
