Simply put no, you are not permitted to bring duty free alcohol into the Maldives and yes, drinks are expensive on island. A good all inclusive option is often worthwhile considering.
You will travel by float plane, speedboat or domestic flight to a nearby island, depending on where you're staying. You are met on arrival and taken for the transfer.
Float planes are booked in accordance with your international arrival and departure. There is often a short wait but resort lounges are available and very comfortable.
While the Maldives is a Muslim country and thus customs when away from your resort must be respected, while on island however, beach wear in all it forms is fully expected. Topless sunbathing is forbidden.
