Situated 120 kilometres north of Mahajanga and only accessible by the lodge's private plane is the luxurious boutique Anjajavy hotel. Anjajavy rests on a peninsula from the Mozambique channel within a large bay, behind which lies a beautiful forest reserve which means Anjajavy offers you the best of both worlds - a beautiful beach and a private forest reserve full of lemurs and chameleons.
These self-guided forest walks (in addition to the beautiful beach) are a real highlight of a stay at Anjajavy, as is the recently discovered Alley of Baobabs and the nearby traditional villages can be reached by mountain bike (with guide) if you fancy exploring. Whjilst there is no diving, the lodge offers plenty of water based activities - catamarans, windsurfing, canoes and snorkelling. The main building itself looks out across the lawn, usually covered with parakeets, to the 200 m2 pool and the Indian Ocean beyond - dotted with inviting parasols and sun loungers. The beautiful, long, sandy beach in front of the villas is perfect for swimming and relaxing, in addition to which there is a second beach, geared towards water sports, thereby preserving the tranquillity of the villas and the beach in front of them.
Why we like it
Given its remote location, spectacular coastline and incredible welcome from Cedric and his team, it is no wonder this is one of our clients’ favourite retreats many of whom return year after year to spend their whole time here. The wildlife in Anjajavy reserve is also considered by many to be some of the best on the island.
