Hemingways Hotel

This plantation-style property has 45 spacious suites, all overlooking the garden, towards the distant Ngong Hills. The design is classically stylish, but set up in a such a way as to give the hotel a much smaller, more intimate atmosphere than the number of rooms might suggest.

From the sweeping staircase that greets you on arrival, to the polished lobby and beautifully manicured gardens bursting with colour, Hemingways is the place to enjoy a few luxuries. The dining is considered some of the best in Kenya, with their famous steaks perfectly grilled over a trendy Josper charcoal oven.

Why We Like Hemingways Hotel

The staff and managers give Hemingways a personality and warmth that elevates it above many of the other hotels in the area. This, as well as the beautiful gardens, make it a haven within bustling Nairobi.

Facilities

All of the suites are fitted with modern conveniences, even flat-screen TVs that are cleverly hidden in blanket boxes at the end of the beds. Decorated in light, relaxing colours, the suites feature dark-wood, four-poster beds that are draped with white mosquito netting. The en-suite bathrooms are all fitted with Italian marble, walk-in closets and double vanity units.

A 24-hour concierge service means local travel and activities can all be easily arranged. Other amenities include a brasserie, bar, spa, gym, 15-metre swimming pool and designer souvenir gallery.

Activities

From the hotel, it is easy to get out and explore Nairobi, visiting the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Nairobi National Park or local community projects.

However, it is just as easy to stay and relax at Hemingways. Perhaps take a long, lazy lunch on the shady veranda looking out across the grounds, with fresh produce and local specialities, washed down with a cold beer or glass of wine. You can then head to the small pool to relax, or choose any number of treatments at the spa.

Location

Hemingways Hotel is located on the south-western edge of Nairobi, outside of the bypass that skirts the city’s centre. It is around 15 kilometres from the domestic airport and 30 kilometres from the international airport. It is also within easy reach of Nairobi National Park, which is just to the east.
