This stylish, Swahili inspired boutique retreat works on many levels. The owners, Ida and Filip have made this their family home so there is a wonderfully relaxed, informal atmosphere but the standards are kept high.
With 5 different types of rooms and villas on offer, there is something here for everyone from spacious, family villas to intimate, smaller, more exclusive rooms for those looking to treat themselves. Every one of the rooms on offer however, are full of charm and colourful Swahili fabrics, adding a splash of colour to the cool, dark interiors and whitewashed stone walls. Four poster beds add a dash of style and each of the rooms open out onto private veranda's letting light in once the wooden shutters are open, with great views of the gardens and sea.
At night, lanterns and candles add a wonderful atmosphere as dinner is served either in the lounge and bar area of the main house, rich in rugs and African artefacts, under one of the larger trees in the garden or on the beach. Eating fresh lobster under a canopy of stars is pretty special. Like the lodge itself, the activities on offer are both invigorating and incredibly relaxing, from yoga, horse-riding on the beach or in nearby forests and spa treatments, through to kite-surfing, scuba diving or even the chance to visit the nearby skate park set up by Filip for disadvantaged children in nearby communities.
