Japan Group Tour - A Culinary Adventure with Chef Yuki

11 days

from £pp
  • Meet specialist produce suppliers and master chefs
  • Shop in rural markets and learn traditional cookery techniques
  • Experience the rich cultural world of Kyoto and the culinary centre of Osaka

Japan is home to many things, ancient history, strong traditions, cutting edge technology and Manga cartoons. However, one thing that always comes to mind when thinking of Japan is the food. Fresh, healthy, vibrant and elegant, Japanese food ranges from the well-known sushi and sashimi to warming udon noodles and vibrant salads.

Having been bought up living in the shadow of Mount Fuji with fresh air and home-grown vegetables on her doorstep, Yuki Gomi grew up with a love of good food. A Japanese chef, food writer and cookery teacher she is now based in London.

We are delighted to be working with Yuki on a group tour to Japan, covering home-style food to the steamy street stalls of Tokyo and going behind the scenes of traditional Japanese family life. A personal and authentic story of artisan food in Japan alongside some of the classic highlights of the country, from the iconic site of Mount Fuji to the temples and cultural hub of Kyoto.

Yuki Gomi

Yuki Gomi
Growing up in the idyllic mountains close to Mount Fuji, Yuki’s earliest memories of food are home-grown, organic produce cooked by her mother. Her love of food was born out of the contrast of this lovingly made home cooking and the wild buzz of the boom-time eighties, in nearby Tokyo.

Studying classical music took Yuki to Chicago at the age of 19, but she was soon lured away to Le Cordon Bleu where she channelled her love of food into training as a chef. Returning to Japan, she focused on technique under the wing of a master Soba noodle chef and planned menus for some of the best local restaurants. Moving to England in 2005, Yuki created new recipes and designed menus at Japanese restaurants across Central London before becoming a teacher and Yuki’s Kitchen was born. Alongside regular classes at her home in South London, Yuki now offers courses and private lessons at special events around the world.

As well as introducing new audiences to her native cuisine and culture through teaching, Yuki has published a book - Sushi at Home and has featured in Vogue, The Guardian, Stylist, The Telegraph and BBC Good Food and is widely consulted as an expert on Japanese cuisine.
