Italy Holidays

Is it the rolling Tuscan hills, the crenelated hilltop villages, the honey coloured architecture of Rome, the lakes of Lombardy or the Duomo of Florence that make us fall so in love with Italy? Or is the list so long that not one distinctive aspect to Italy stands out above the rest? Perhaps our love of Italy stems from an amalgamation of it all.

What to expect on your Italy holiday

  • Personalized private touring with expert guides and drivers
  • Preferred rooms at the very best hotels
  • First hand, sophisticated destination knowledge and recommendations
  • Restaurant and spa reservation service, performance and sporting event ticket arrangements
  • Around-the-clock support in each destination during the trip
  • Unique, insider travel experiences

Expect open roads made for fast cars, delicious food in the simplest of restaurants, leaning towers, gridlocked traffic in the main cities and beautiful hotels ranging from the most stylish and chic to traditional palazzos full of family treasures. Vibrant colours, fabulous art collections and little villages where you can sit for hours with an espresso soaking up the atmosphere. Lakes for sailing, mountains for walking or skiing, a few beaches and lots of olives – and then of course there is the ice cream. Someone remind me why we live in England…

Some ideas for an Italy holiday

  • Soak up the romance of Florence with its Renaissance art galleries and museums.
  • Climb Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe, located on Sicily.
  • Explore the medieval walled town of Siena, home to the world famous Palio.
  • Head to Palermo with its lively atmosphere and melting pot of cultures.
  • Rent a villa and a car and explore the Tuscan countryside.

Both Kate and Katie have spent weeks exploring Italy including many lesser known areas which we think might appeal to those who appreciate holidays off the well-worn track. Whether it is long weekends or more extended stays, we have all kinds of suggestions for your holiday to Italy.

Do I really need a local guide?
Hiring a local guide in certain towns and cities is crucial if you don't want to miss anything and wish to better understand Italian history, art and culture.
Can I book concert tickets on arrival?
It is far more preferable to pre-book tickets for concerts or sports events well in advance as ticket sell out quickly. Tickets can be pre-booked on line or through Steppes Travel.
Is it necessary to pre-book a table in a restaurant?
Usually it is not necessary to reserve a table in a typical/medium class restaurant such as a Trattoria or Pizzeria. However reservations are required for top class restaurants.
