Discover Florence, the capital of Italy's Tuscany region and birthplace of the Renaissance on our Christmas tour. Florence is a small and vibrant city, steeped in history and character with narrow streets and market squares, which evoke a thousand-tales making it a perfect Christmas getaway destination.

The city's Christmas spirit begins early in December, when shops decorate their windows in Christmas themes and traditional decorative lighting is placed along the city streets.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO IN FLORENCE AT CHRISTMAS?

One of the most popular things to do in Florence in December is to take in an opera night in one of the city's historical churches. Whether at the Duomo Auditorium or an ancient basilica, the setting is cosy and intimate.

DO THEY HAVE CHRISTMAS MARKETS IN FLORENCE?

The biggest Christmas market in Florence is in Piazza Santa Croce, and generally lasts from the end of November to the last days before Christmas. Just like a Nordic market, the stands at the Christmas markets in Florence are set up in rustic wooden stalls resembling country huts. There will be plenty of hand-made items as well as the foods of the season like hot steaming vin brulé and freshly baked cinnamon strudels plus gifts and wine.

WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE IN ITALY?

Italy is known for its wonderful food and wine and visiting in December offers many additional festive delicacies.

IS CHRISTMAS A GOOD TIME TO VISIT FLORENCE?

Florence is charming all year round. December is particularly pretty and a perfect place to soak up the festive atmosphere. From strolling through the city's cobbled streets admiring the beautiful Christmas markets, to visiting one of the many seasonal concerts. Florence's world-famous museums are pleasantly un-crowded in December so you can admire the renaissance masterpieces without the scrum.

WHERE DOES THE GROUP STAY IN ITALY?

The group will be based at the beautiful Hotel Brunelleschi, a charming property located only a stone’s throw away from the Uffizi Gallery, Piazza della Signoria and one of the world’s most famous shopping streets.

IS THIS GROUP TOUR SUITABLE FOR SOLO TRAVELLERS?

Our group tours are perfect for solo travellers, as travelling as part of an organised group does provide security and peace of mind. We handle all the arrangements for you and there will be a local tour guide on hand throughout to provide advice and help if needed.

If you are willing to share, we will always do our best to match you up with another solo traveller of the same sex so that you do not have to pay the single room supplement.

If you would prefer the privacy of your own room and would like this guaranteed, then the single room supplement will apply.

HOW ACTIVE IS THIS GROUP TOUR?

You do not need to be particularly fit to participate, there are no long walks involved, but there will be a certain number of stone steps and uneven surfaces.

The tour begins at the Uffizi Museum.
