The city's Christmas spirit begins early in December, when shops decorate their windows in Christmas themes and traditional decorative lighting is placed along the city streets.
WHAT IS THERE TO DO IN FLORENCE AT CHRISTMAS?
One of the most popular things to do in Florence in December is to take in an opera night in one of the city's historical churches. Whether at the Duomo Auditorium or an ancient basilica, the setting is cosy and intimate.
DO THEY HAVE CHRISTMAS MARKETS IN FLORENCE?
The biggest Christmas market in Florence is in Piazza Santa Croce, and generally lasts from the end of November to the last days before Christmas. Just like a Nordic market, the stands at the Christmas markets in Florence are set up in rustic wooden stalls resembling country huts. There will be plenty of hand-made items as well as the foods of the season like hot steaming vin brulé and freshly baked cinnamon strudels plus gifts and wine.
