Easily accessed from Milan, a few days touring in this region is incredibly rewarding and provides a complete contrast from its neighbouring regions further south.

Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda

This itinerary suggestion includes a visit to the two largest lakes, Maggiore and Garda. The westernmost lake, Lake Maggiore, has a special attraction: Isola Bella, the most romantic of the three Borromean Islands, famous for their palazzi and gardens. The main town of Stresa has a delightful lakeside promenade known for its flowers and views of the lake's islands.

Lake Garda, Italy's largest and easternmost lake, is surrounded by rolling green hills and gardens, vineyards, lemon trees and olive groves. The spa town of Sirmione is Garda's little treasure and well worth visiting.

Verona and Milan

This holiday idea ends with a night in the historical town of Verona, visiting the main city squares and monuments. Complete this trip with a cheese and wine tasting tour in Soave before returning to Milan for a spot of shopping before flying home.

"Kate was calm and bent over backwards to accommodate my jitters about going to Kashmir in the light of tighter FCO guidelines just a few days before our departure. She was absolutely correct in advising against what I thought we should do. Several times during the holiday we said that, 'Kate was dead right about that!'."

"We asked for a rather particular kind of Indian holiday. You delivered it in full. Highlights? Honestly, each day was a highlight in itself. "
