This nine-day holiday has been created by Steppes Travel to bring you closer to the action with exclusive access to one of the world’s greatest free literary festivals. From Nobel laureates to local language writers, Man Booker prize winners to debut novelists, every January the most remarkable, witty, sensitive and brilliant collection of authors come together for five days of readings, debates, and discussions at the beautiful Diggi Palace in the Rajasthani capital.

  • Sunrise City Tour by foot or bicycle through Old Delhi

  • Join star authors at private hosted lunches and dinners
  • Access to all music concerts at Hotel Clarks Amer

The adventure begins with a visit to the bustling city of Delhi before flying to Jaipur for the full five days covering the entire Jaipur festival. Every evening there is also an exciting music programme.

January is also the season for horse polo, and Jaipur is home to this iconic sport, so spend time on the polo field or at Dera Amer. There is no better way to witness the pink city of Jaipur than from the lofty heights of a hot air balloon, flying silently over the Amber Fort for a bird's eye view at sunrise. Alternatively explore from the ground on an evening walking tour to observe local artisans in their bazaars workshops, or take a private car to indulge in shopping.

Continue your holiday in Rajasthan

This wonderful experience combines well with an optional three-day extension to the Taj Mahal in Agra, the Tiger Reserve at Ranthambhore, or simply tell us where else you would like to go.

Delhi may be one of the world's largest metropolises, but architectural wonders - new and old - fill the city, hidden beneath Delhi's urban sprawl. Mughal treasures, including the Red Fort and Jama Masjid, are complemented by more recent additions to Delhi's architectural heritage, such as the stunning Lotus and Akshardham Temples. Meanwhile, contemporary Delhi thrives in Connaught Place, which - with its colonially-designed buildings, - is the most westernised part of the centre. Globalisation is in evidence, with brand names splashed across every storefront.

Built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the 18th century, it was designed around a system of nine squares. Now packed with elegant Rajput architecture, the city is a testament to its founder's creative genius.

"It was extremely helpful to work in conjunction with Joe and his much more up to date knowledge of India and arrive at an itinerary which we were happy with. We enjoyed the whole trip and probably what made it special for us was the fact that all the arrangements worked so well and we really didn’t have to worry about anything at all. Even when we decided to make a small change it was dealt with efficiently and promptly. We can't think of anything that would have made our trip more enjoyable."

Kate Hitchen, Travel Expert

"Kate was calm and bent over backwards to accommodate my jitters about going to Kashmir in the light of tighter FCO guidelines just a few days before our departure. She was absolutely correct in advising against what I thought we should do. Several times during the holiday we said that, 'Kate was dead right about that!'."

"We asked for a rather particular kind of Indian holiday. You delivered it in full. Highlights? Honestly, each day was a highlight in itself. "
