This nine-day holiday has been created by Steppes Travel to bring you closer to the action with exclusive access to one of the world’s greatest free literary festivals. From Nobel laureates to local language writers, Man Booker prize winners to debut novelists, every January the most remarkable, witty, sensitive and brilliant collection of authors come together for five days of readings, debates, and discussions at the beautiful Diggi Palace in the Rajasthani capital.
- Sunrise City Tour by foot or bicycle through Old Delhi
- Spend five days as a delegate at the Jaipur Literature Festival
- Join star authors at private hosted lunches and dinners
- Access to all music concerts at Hotel Clarks Amer
The adventure begins with a visit to the bustling city of Delhi before flying to Jaipur for the full five days covering the entire Jaipur festival. Every evening there is also an exciting music programme.
January is also the season for horse polo, and Jaipur is home to this iconic sport, so spend time on the polo field or at Dera Amer. There is no better way to witness the pink city of Jaipur than from the lofty heights of a hot air balloon, flying silently over the Amber Fort for a bird's eye view at sunrise. Alternatively explore from the ground on an evening walking tour to observe local artisans in their bazaars workshops, or take a private car to indulge in shopping.
Continue your holiday in Rajasthan
This wonderful experience combines well with an optional three-day extension to the Taj Mahal in Agra, the Tiger Reserve at Ranthambhore, or simply tell us where else you would like to go.
More about the Jaipur Literature Festival
Founded by William Dalrymple and Namita Gokhale in 2006, when just 18 authors attended, the Jaipur Literature Festival is now regarded as a cultural catalyst within India and around the world, exposing audiences to a constant flow of interactive thoughts and ideas, in a wonderfully festive atmosphere.
Over the space of five bustling days, it brings together over 240 renowned authors and thinkers from around the world. A superbly organised schedule of 45-minute talks and workshops take place in a range of decorated buildings, lawns and marquees in the grounds of the Diggi Palace Hotel in central Jaipur. Five or six presentations happen simultaneously from breakfast to late afternoon. Discussions may range from poetry, geopolitical history and aspects of novel and creative writing.
For the energetic, there is also a range of evening concerts, featuring contemporary and traditional musicians. The line-up of well-known speakers will be released later this year.
Confirmed dates are 24 - 28 January 2019.
