Coconut Lagoon

This traditional-style, eco-friendly hotel promising complete escapism. Individual cottages, called tharawads, are set amongst lawns and gardens amid a network of pools and waterways.

A beautiful place to stay during a tour of Kerala and an excellent land-based accommodation option if you prefer not to stay overnight on a houseboat.

There are 50 rooms located in traditional cottages of varying size and standard. Each features and television, minibar and ensuite bathroom. The heritage bungalows have air-conditioning and wooden floors with charming, family atmosphere and views over the lush flora and winding canals. The deluxe pool villas feature their own private pool and the two storey heritage mansions offer masses of space and comfort.

There is an outdoor pool, Ayurvedic massage centre, bar and restaurant.

  • Relax and rejuvenate in the Ayurvedic centre
  • Try your hand at learning to play the tabla
  • Catch a Kalari match in the early morning
  • Watch a show of Kerala's traditional arts, such as Kathakali
  • Spend the morning in the butterfly garden

Families at coconut lagoon

Families will be spoilt for choice with so many activities on offer. Children can try their hand at learning to play a local instrument, watch a Kalari match, learn to husk a coconut, interact with some of the finest Keralan performers and dancers during evening shows, spend time counting the 54 species of dragonfly alone in the butterfly garden. Explore the backwaters by canoe or cycle. There is never time for TV here, and you won’t find one if you look.

Coconut Lagoon is located on the eastern end of Lake Vembanad and can only be reached by boat. Transfer from the airport takes approximately two and a half hours.
