Tailor-Made Holiday

Short Break to Iceland

5 days

from £2,995pp (excluding flights)

Just below the Arctic circle, a holiday to Iceland offers an exciting mix of nature, culture and fun. Volcanoes and glaciers have combined to create a landscape that is dramatic and raw and the Icelanders know exactly how best to explore it. Spend time walking across vast tundra, snow mobiling across glaciers, bathing in hot springs or dining in smart hotels and restaurants in the buzzing capital Reykjavik.

  • Enjoy a drink while people watching in Reykjavik, best on a Friday night.
  • Venture 20 minutes outside the city to the facinating Blue Lagoon.
  • Spend the day away from the city at the Geysir with its hot springs.
  • Drive up to Hotel Ranga in Southern Iceland for Northern Lights and Vikings!

Iceland is an easy trip from the UK but offers a complete change of scene from home. With the main sites reached within the day from Reykajavik you can base yourself in the city or for a longer trip hire a car or use a private driver and venture off road into the glaciers, Jukulsarglijufur National Park for hiking and of course, at the right time of year, towards the Hekla volcano and Hotel Ranga for the Northern Lights.

Day 1

Fly London to Reykjavik

Reykjavik, the world’s most northerly capital, is home to candy coloured buildings, an eccentric and fun people and exciting nightlife. Visit stylish galleries, people watch from the pavement cafes and use it as a base to explore the Golden Circle.

This city is a city of contrasts; contemporary architecture sits aside snow-capped mountains and icy seas. Visit for the culture, with masses of colourful festivals throughout the year or the unfamiliar feeling of partying through the White Nights in the summer.

You will be staying at Alda Hotel Reykjavik, bed and breakfast

Day 2

Full Day Golden Circle Tour
Travel around the Golden Circle of Iceland where many highlights of the country can be seen. Stop at theThingvellir national park where the first parliament was established, it is also the only place in the world where the American and European tectonic plates can be seen. Explore the Geyser area where Strokkur, the fourth biggest geyser in the world, spectacularly erupts to a height of forty metres, every five minutes or so. Drive eastwards towards the infamous Eyjafjallajokull volcano, to see the picturesque waterfalls, one of which you can walk behind.

You will be staying at Alda Hotel Reykjavik, bed and breakfast

Day 3

Blue Lagoon
Spend some time soaking in the geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon. These healing waters originate 2,000 metres below the earth's surface where sea and freshwater combine at extreme temperatures. On its way to the surface the water collects silica and minerals before emerging at a soothing 38 degrees making for a perfect and relaxing bathe. The Blue Lagoon is also a convenient stop to or from the airport.

You will be staying at Alda Hotel Reykjavik, bed and breakfast

Day 4

Drive from Reykjavik to Hella (Road Journey)

Private transfer from Reykjavik to Hella, southern Iceland.

Hella is located in the south of Iceland, a community which flourished in the mid 20th century when many of the rivers in the south-western lowlands were bridged allowing inhabitants to make a living from agriculture and tourism. Hella is often visited as it is a perfect spot for viewing the Northern Lights.

You will be staying at Hotel Ranga, bed and breakfast

Day 5

Drive from Hella to Reykjavik

Drive through the village of Flúðir to reach the geothermal area of Geysir. Here the lively Strokkur hot spring ejects its water column high into the air every five to ten minutes and where numerous small springs boil and bubble. Nearby visit Gulfoss, the country's most famous waterfall.

Drive back through the Geysir area towards Lake Laugarvatn and Thingvellir national park. Considered one of the geological wonders of the world, witness the effects of the tectonic plate movements which have opened various cracks and fissures in the earth's crust. It was also here that the Icelandic Parliament was founded in the 10th century. Continue to Reykjavik over the Mosfellsheiði moors.
