Tailor-Made Holiday

Highlights of Indonesia with Java

14 days

from £3,095pp (excluding flights)

Indonesia, one of the world’s largest archipelagos, offers such a eclectic mix of culture, landscapes, history and people. Too large to visit all the islands in one trip, it is worth considering a classic journey such as this to start your discovery of this remarkable country.

  • Visit Prambanan, the largest Hindu Temple in Indonesia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • Lose yourself amidst the awe-inspiring Buddhist temple complex of Borobudur
  • Explore paddy fields and volcanic scenery on Bali
  • Shop for traditional handicrafts in Ubud
  • Spend five days at the newly opened Alila Seminyak, a stunning property

Start in either Java or Bali, an easy hop from a hub such as Singapore or Hong Kong. In Java become absorbed in the UNESCO sites of Borobudur and Prambanan, the sleepy villages, which scatter the landscapes and the captivating university town of Yogjakarta.

A short flight brings you to Bali where ideally the time is split between beach and the centre of the island – Ubud being the perfect place. Stay within walking distance of the town with its busy market, local temples, galleries and buzzing restaurant scene or choose somewhere more peaceful overlooking rice paddies or the Ayung River. A few nights here gives a greater insight into Bali, which, so different from other Indonesian Islands, is undoubtedly busier but still with a strong sense of spiritual heritage.

A few days on the beach in Bali is a must. Home to world class hotels, whether it’s one of the better known names such as Four Seasons or Aman or smaller, more local in style, there are masses to choose from but our selection is always based on service, beauty and a genuine feel for the region. Beaches such as Seminyak and Jimbaran offer the chance to explore nearby restaurants and bars or less visited beaches such as Uluwatu and Manggis, some with black volcanic sand are for those who want to relax, read a book and enjoy spa treatments.
