Chile is a country of vast and varied landscapes, this Chile holiday takes in some of the highlights, from the Atacama Desert in the north to the Torres del Paine National Park in the south. A great trip for the first time visitor.

  • Travel the length of Chile visiting diverse and visually stunning landscapes
  • Witness unforgettable scenes in the vast Atacama; the driest desert on earth
  • View the towering granite peaks of the spectacular Torres del Paine National Park
  • Explore the lakes, national parks and snow-capped volcanoes of the Lake District

Chile is the longest country in the world, knowing where to go and what to see can be daunting. This itinerary includes some of our favourite areas to give a taste of what this country has to offer. If time is not an issue plenty more regions can be added.

Begin in the beautiful, yet stark Atacama Desert. A striking landscape where volcanoes, geysers, flamingo filled lagoons and moon-like landscapes abound. Armed with a camera, spend days exploring the remarkable scenery and by night gaze up at the incredible night sky.

In contrast, head south and spend time in the lush green Lake District, an area of snow-capped volcanoes, glacial lakes and endless outdoor activities.

At the bottom of the country find the majestic Torres del Paine National Park. This park in southern Patagonia offers breathtaking vistas. Whether on foot, horse-back or by car, the eye is always drawn back to the huge granite massif.

Fly Madrid to Santiago

Santiago de Chile enjoys a striking setting sandwiched between The Andes and the Pacific Ocean. It is a modern, cosmopolitan capital city with much to keep the discerning traveller occupied.

Cable car rides offer panoramic views, while art museums both classic and modern vie for your attention. As a modern city, it is easy to explore and any visitor will delight in wandering the bohemian district of Lastarria, home to high quality boutiques and restaurants.

Readily accessible from the city are horse riding, white water rafting or skiing excursions and the region's much celebrated vineyards.

Day 3

Half day Valley of the Moon trip
A half day visit to the Moon Valley, one of the most spectacular phenomena in the Atacama Desert because of its geological formations over thousands of years by erosion and climate. You will have time to explore this amazing place with its peculiar rock formations. There will also be an opportunity to take a short hike into the sand dunes to enjoy the lunar landscape.

Sitting at 2,400 metres above sea level, San Pedro de Atacama is a charming oasis town in the heart of the Atacama Desert.

The climate in San Pedro is pleasant throughout the year and the clarity of the nightsky is fantastic for stargazing. The tiny, dusty, oasis town with unpaved streets serves as a base from where to explore the absolutely outstanding, natural, geographic beauty of the area.

You will be staying at Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa, Bed & Breakfast

- Hike up to the tarn at the base of the Torres del Paine, the near vertical granite spires that give the park its name; this is perhaps the parks most photogenic spot
- Sail across Lake Nordenskjold and hike up Valle de Frances for views of the Cuernos del Paine (Horns of Paine), an amphitheatre of majestic granite peaks
- Trek or ride to Lake Pingo, Salto Grande (waterfalls) or Mirador Nordenskjold, all three boast superb views
- Traverse the Up and Over route passing saline lakes and stunning views
- Look out for condor and it is often possible to walk to their craggy nests
- Ride from one estancia to another.

Torres del Paine National Park is an UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve of stunning beauty, located on the southernmost tip of the Patagonia Ice Cap. Electric blue icebergs float on vividly coloured lakes of turquoise and aquamarine, while golden beech forests cling to the base of colossal granite pinnacles - this is a landscape of rare beauty.

The National Park also supports a fragile eco-system of fauna including the guanaco, fox, condor, rhea and elusive puma. Without question, Torres del Paine and its captivating scenery and ultimate remoteness, is one of the highlights of South America.
