Tbilisi

The largest city in Georgia by a considerable distance, Tbilisi can justifiably claim to be the heart of the country. Squeezed between mountain ranges, the city fills the Mtkvari river valley. Having been the capital of Georgia for more than 1,500 years, in some form or another, Tbilisi is rich in history. However, as a city that hints at a new-found wealth, Tbilisi is undoubtedly changing. New building projects have added a touch of glamour to this historic city and contrast with the narrow streets, unchanged religious buildings and caravanserais of the old town.

Kazbegi, Georgia

Kazbegi and Sameba Trinity Church

Surrounded by gigantic mountains, Kazbegi is a picturesque settlement overlooked by one of the highest peaks of all, Mount Kazbek, at 5,047 metres above sea level, and one of the six 5,000 metre peaks of the Caucasus.

Visit Sameba Trinity Church, also known as Gergeti Trinity Church, the main attraction in the area located near the village of Gergeti. This 14th-century church above Kazbegi has become almost a symbol of Georgia for its incomparably photogenic hilltop setting with mighty Mount Kazbek rising behind it. It offers stunning views of the snow-capped mountains in the distance.

Mestia and Ushguli

Mestia is a small provincial settlement surrounded by huge Caucasian Mountains, the most impressive of which are Mountains Ushba, 4,710 metres and Tetnuldi, 4,975 metres, some of the most severe and beautiful summits of the Caucasus.

Ushguli, Europe’s highest permanently inhabited village, is located at 2,400 metres above sea level. Explore the village, its medieval towers and Lamaria Church. Enjoy the views of Mount Shkhara, the highest summit in Georgia, at 5,201 metres.

Batumi Nightlife, Black Sea Coast, Georgia
Batumi, Georgia

Batumi

Set in the south-western corner of Georgia, with a mist-wrapped backdrop of stunning hills and soaring snow-capped peaks, Batumi is a charismatic place. It is fronted by the calm waters of the Black Sea and boasts a long beach and a vast and beautifully maintained corniche, which bursts with life during Georgia’s summertime.

Why a Steppes expert-led group tour

1.Experience Matters

We have been running insightful and groundbreaking group tours since our inception in 1989. We have worked with institutions such as the British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum and run wildlife tours in conjunction with conservation agencies such as Fauna & Flora International, Wildlife Conservation Society, the Orangutan Foundation, Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and the Jane Goodall Institute.

2.Size Matters

Our average group size is typically eight to ten people, smaller than other group tours typically offered – a factor which many of our clients appreciate. Travelling as part of a smaller group provides a more intimate, personalised and relaxed atmosphere.

4.It’s about who you know

We have developed an enviable pool of expertise from which to choose our tour experts, who we carefully select based on their knowledge, companionship and personality. Often, these experts can use their influence to facilitate private access to sites not typically open to the public.

3.Like-Minded People

Steppes Travellers are like-minded people – interesting, interested and curious. Our group tours aim to create an easy and informal atmosphere – we have a lot of fun on our tours and many friendships have been formed.

5.Value for money

Our tours are well-priced to ensure you get real value for money. We include gratuities on the majority of our tours and do not pass on currency surcharges. We strive to look after single travellers as well as we can, keeping single supplements to a minimum.

6.Peace of Mind

When you travel on one of our group tours, you will be looked after by our local agents and your tour expert with the back-up of our 24-hour emergency number and duty manager. All our holidays are fully bonded and protected – our ATOL number is ATOL 6495.
