Celebrating Diwali in India

Diwali, the festival of lights, is a five-day festival that is celebrated with music, lights, fireworks and traditional sweets. It sees millions attend firework displays, prayers and celebratory events across India every Autumn.  It is the celebration of light over darkness and good over evil. Diwali also celebrates the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Lakshmi. Millions of earthenware oil lamps light up people’s homes, shops and places of worship. Rangoli artwork made from coloured powders, ground rice powders and flowers are displayed. It also marks the start of the Hindu New Year. This year the celebrations start from the 7th November 2018.
