Santiago, Chile

Santiago

Sandwiched between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean, South America’s fifth-largest city commands a striking setting with a Mediterranean climate for much of the year.

Santiago de Chile is a modern, cosmopolitan capital city with much to offer the discerning traveller. Founded by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, Santiago boasts many cultural and historic sites, while there is a vast range of exciting outdoor activities from trekking to skiing (seasonal) that are easily accessed from the city.

A vibrant city by day and night, there are more than enough high-quality restaurants and bars to keep visitors well fed and watered during their stay.

A little more about Santiago and Cajón del Maipú

To escape the bustle of the city head southeast to the Cajón del Maipú for horseriding and white water rafting, or east of the city and choose from a range of world-class ski resorts such as Valle Nevado and Portillo, a long-established haven for skiers and snowboarders from around the world.

Alternatively, sample world-class wines in the Central Valley winelands of Colchagua, Maipo and Casablanca to name but a few. Visitors may also wish to visit colourful, UNESCO-listed Valparaiso, an historic port around an hour’s drive from the capital.
