Catamaran Meltemi, Yacht Charter, Andaman Islands, India

Andaman Islands

Lush tropical rainforest, coral reef, mangroves, white sandy beaches and an exotic collection of flora and fauna make a holiday to the Andaman Islands a favourite for nature lovers and those wanting to completely cut themselves off from the rest of the world in a virgin paradise.

Located midway between India and Myanmar, the remote Andaman Islands are a flight from Delhi, Chennai or Calcutta to Port Blair, followed by a two-hour boat ride or seaplane service.

With a limited number of places to stay, two of our favourite retreats, hidden in the serene confines of Havelock Island are Barefoot at Havelock and Jalakara Private Villa Hotel.

How to reach India's Andaman Islands

Located midway between India and Myanmar, the remote Andaman Islands are a short flight from Chennai or Calcutta to Port Blair, followed by a two-hour boat ride or seaplane service from Port Blair.

Head for Havelock Island, part of Ritchie’s Archipelago. Havelock is best known for its pristine dive sites and beaches, like Elephant Beach, with its coral reefs.

Havelock is a small island so wherever you stay you are generally no more than a 15-minute drive away from anything. To be truly independent during your stay on Havelock, hire a scooter or a bike. Auto-rickshaws and taxis are readily available to get you safely from A to B – or if you are feeling like you want to experience transport island-style then catch the regular, uncrowded, extremely cheap and rather jolly bus service.

My travels were first inspired by my love of the UK, which I take as much pleasure in exploring as countries far and wide. For me, travel is all about the adventure, the people I meet and the food I sample along the way.
