Paro Dzong Monastry, Bhutan

Paro

Bordered by forested mountain peaks, Paro is a small valley town in western Bhutan and one of the most beautiful arrival points for any country.

The site of Bhutan’s only international airport, this quiet town consists of just a handful of colourful buildings and captures the essence of provincial Bhutanese life.

The surrounding valley is a mix of small villages, historic buildings, monuments and wonderfully terraced fields. Whether you decide to begin or end your holiday to Bhutan in the Paro valley, visitors will experience some excellent day hikes, wander around ancient Buddhist monasteries, most famously the Tiger’s Nest, an impressive structure that clings to the side of cliff; take in local weekly markets and mix with the wonderfully gentle and friendly Bhutanese people. One of the most remote valleys in the Paro region is the Haa valley, located in the far west, it offers some of the most exceptional far-reaching Himalayan mountain views.

My travels were first inspired by my love of the UK, which I take as much pleasure in exploring as countries far and wide. For me, travel is all about the adventure, the people I meet and the food I sample along the way.
