The Basque Country

Home to some of the world’s finest food, rugged beaches, mountain walking and avant-garde architecture, this area in northern Spain has something to offer all-year-round.

In one day visitors could find themselves walking a rugged coastal path, eating at a Michelin-starred restaurant and seeing contemporary art collections at the Guggenheim Museum.

Northern Spain at its best

The Basque Country ticks every box. Mountainous national parks and coasts dotted with traditional fishing villages sit proudly aside stylish cities, such as San Sebastian. Showcasing modern architecture bursting with galleries and fabulous restaurants, this region is eclectic, individual and unique to Spain.

In essence, this less-visited region offers something different from the norm. If visitors are looking to spend time hiking, walking, surfing or cycling in the fresh air, if they are seeking a more cultural city break with food, wine and art or if their ideal holiday is a mix of it all, then the Basque Country should be high on their wishlist.

Tapas, Tapas, Tapas

Trying the famous pintxos is a must – similar to tapas, these delicious morsels are displayed in all their glory on the counters of numerous bars, to be enjoyed with a glass of local Rioja. Walk between the fishing towns of Orio to Getaria for a night dining on fresh fish, explore the Basque’s beautiful coastal town of Pasaia St Juan and spend a few days walking in the national parks.

It’s all here. Things to see and do, places to explore and moments to discover.

Katie Benden

The excitement of travelling the world has always hugely appealed. Largely cemented from my first solo trip to Egypt and the Middle East. The crazy hustle and bustle of Cairo was a huge assault on the senses, scrambling through the claustrophobic tunnels of the Great pyramid took me out of my comfort zone and I was left humbled by the warm hospitality of the Nubian people in Aswan as we shared dinner together.

Having travelled to different parts of the world over the years it never ceases to amaze me how you constantly learn and evolve from the adventures you experience. I adore working in an environment where I can share my passion for the world and discuss fascinating stories both from my experiences and that of our clients. In the past year I’ve delved into the wintery beauty of St Petersburg, trekked through the colourful desert in Jordan and sailed down the iconic Nile in Egypt.
