Beyond Reykjavik

Travel as far as you can, away from the easily reached sites just outside Reykjavik where a more undiscovered region awaits. Travel by 4×4 to reach the geysers and the sandy-coloured peaks at Landmannalaugar.

It’s all here. Things to see and do, places to explore and moments to discover.

The Fimmvorouhals or Five Cairns Pass is one of the top twenty hiking trails in the world. Trek the 23km in spring or summer to view the blanket of wild Arctic flowers covering the valley.

Shop at Mosfellsbaer

Treat yourself to a traditional Icelandic woollen sweater at Mosfellsbaer.

The Blue Lagoon

Relax at the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa just outside Reykjavik.

Icelandic Geysirs

Hold your breath waiting for the sky reaching Geysir or the nearby more reliable Strokkur.

Puffin Watching

Sail to Vestmannaeyjar in search of puffins and visit the lava flow towns.

Katie Benden

The excitement of travelling the world has always hugely appealed. Largely cemented from my first solo trip to Egypt and the Middle East. The crazy hustle and bustle of Cairo was a huge assault on the senses, scrambling through the claustrophobic tunnels of the Great pyramid took me out of my comfort zone and I was left humbled by the warm hospitality of the Nubian people in Aswan as we shared dinner together.

Torfhus Retreat £££££

  • Iceland
  • Wilderness

Surrounded by mesmerising Icelandic wilderness, the 25 turf covered houses of Torfhus Retreat blend beautifully into their environment.   Each of the traditional style houses has exclusive or shared use of a basalt hot tub – surrounded by great slabs of lava, these geothermal baths are both relaxing and rejuvenating. Interiors of the wooden retreat are cosy and welcoming with open plan layouts, underfloor heating and furnishings showcasing a sense of history and fun. Swords and shields adorn the walls of the viking inspired Langhaus where the lobby and dining room are lit by wagon wheel chandeliers and guests can relax on the fishing boat sofa.
