Burgundy Barge Cruise on board L’Art de Vivre £££££

Renowned for its world-class wines, beautiful medieval villages and impressive chateaux’s, Burgundy is crisscrossed by a network of canals and some wonderful countryside making it a perfect choice for a hotel barging holiday. Met in Paris, you will transfer to the medieval town of Auxerre to begin a six-day cruise along the Canal du Nivernais passing through delightful locks and countryside ranging from rolling vineyards to pastureland with plenty of opportunities to hop off your barge to explore on foot or bicycle. On shore excursions include wine-tasting in Chablis, home to one of the world’s most famous white wines, a visit to the pilgrimage town of Vezelay and the Romanesque Basilica of St Mary Magdalene plus the chance to explore the 12th Century Chateau de Bazoches.

Canal du Midi Barge Cruise on board Anjodi £££££

One of the most picturesque canals in France, lined with charming villages, ancient Roman sites and world-class vineyards, the Canal du Midi now has UNESCO status due to the remarkable feat of engineering taken to construct it. Starting in the pretty village of Marseillan, this six-day cruise navigates some of the 150 mile long, Plane tree-lined Canal du Midi. On shore, highlights include the frescoes at the 14th century Chateau de Perdiguier, famed for its pinot noir and chardonnay wines, the bustling indoor market at Narbonne, the hilltop fort at Minerve and of course the superb medieval fortified settlement at Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During the cruise, Anjodi will ascend the 7 flight staircase lock of Fonserannes and moor above it before dining out at a Michelin rated restaurant in Beziers.
