The gem of the North must be Suchitoto. Set amidst beautiful rolling countryside on the shores of Lago de Suchitlan, Suchitoto is a charming colonial town with a small and welcoming community.
Suchitoto offers some of the finest examples of colonial architecture in the country. Life in Suchitoto is content and quiet. During the war, Suchitoto experienced only a brief spell of bitter fighting when it became the base to fight the guerrillas and uproot them from their mountain strongholds.
Today visitors can explore the surrounding countryside and can hear the stories from the former guerrillas themselves as well as visit the Añil n(indigo) workshops that have been producing the dye in this region for centuries. On the northern border with Guatemala and Honduras, Montecristo National Park is a thriving cloud forest, full of rare wildlife, birds and orchids.
Our classic combination of the “half-an-hour country” El Salvador and neighbouring Honduras unveils the highlights of these often overlooked nations. From dining with an archaeologist to trail hiking Mayan islands, we can curate a fully-tailored trip bursting with extraordinary experiences.
Our knowledge and expertise set us apart. So too our curiosity. It is this that drives us to create a journey that is really bespoke to you, all the while ensuring we travel and operate sustainably.
