Renaissance in Rethymnon

Rethymnon is situated on the North coast of Crete. The city has been described as “the best-preserved example of Renaissance domestic architecture found outside Italy.” Some 600 to 700 Venetian buildings, mostly houses, flank the narrow lanes.

The small port was of great strategic importance during the Venetian period, with the wall that was built in 1618 having been restored for today’s’ visitors. Interesting archaeological sites include the Rimondi fountain, which was built in 1626, situated in Platanos square and The Fortezza castle which was built in 1590 to protect the city.

The area is well known for the World Heritage Site of Knossos – the ancient Minoan palace and the surrounding city. The archaeological site of Knossos dates back to the Neolithic period.

Drop Anchor at Delos

Delos is a small island in the Aegean Sea, situated just a few miles away from Mykonos. The island is host to many remains from the Archaic, the Classical and the Hellenistic periods. The remains of a settlement that were found on top of Mt. Kinthos show that Delos has been inhabited since the 3rd millennium BC. There are four main areas of ancient ruins which make Delos a fascinating island to visit from the yacht, which will anchor at the bay before reaching Mykonos.

Mykonos provides a simple but stylish experience, with narrow marble streets and hidden churches amongst pretty white-washed houses. Along the lively waterfront, the Kazárma building can be found which was used as accommodation for the soldiers of Manto Mavrogenous, a heroine of the Greek revolution.
