Galapagos Conservation Trust

Steppes is a Gold Corporate Member of the Galapagos Conservation Trust, the only UK charity that is focussed solely on conservation in the archipelago. As such, we continue to support ongoing conservation projects in the archipelago and recently donated to the development of a citizen’s science website on which the public can post information about single-use plastic pollution in the Galapagos. Expert-Led Cruise FAQs

What happens on a typical day on a Galapagos cruise?

Wake up for breakfast at around 07:00 am. There may then be a morning land-based excursion. This may include a short hike, a research centre visit, or searching for local wildlife. Return to your boat for lunch. Afterwards, there will be some time at leisure before your water-based excursion. This could include a Panga (small boat) cruise, or a chance to see the marine life from the water with a snorkel trip. Return to the boat for pre-dinner drinks and a short briefing on the plan for the following day. After dinner, enjoy a talk by one of your expert Naturalists or specialist expert.

Is July a good time to visit the Galapagos?

Although the weather is cooling down in July, it is still a lovely time of year to travel to the Galapagos Islands. The days cool down slightly with clear skies and temperatures averaging 22 °C.

What wildlife can I expect to see in July in the Galapagos?

Whilst not guaranteed, you are likely to see a huge number of both land and sea birds and an eclectic mix of mammals and marine life. Some of the seabirds likely to been seen are magnificent frigate birds, Nazca and blue-footed boobies as well as the Galapagos penguin, the only penguin to nest in the Tropics. Land birds such as the endemic waved albatross, Galapagos hawk, the curious mockingbird and most of the 13 species of Darwin finches are likely to be seen during the cruise. Marine creatures may include rays, turtles, marine iguanas and playful sea lions that love to swim with snorkellers.

Do I need to be an expert photographer to join this cruise?

Whether you have a simple point and shoot camera or a sophisticated SLR, Sue Flood will be on hand to give you tips on how to improve your photography skills. Therefore, you don’t need to be an experienced photographer to join. The maximum group size of just fourteen people will allow Sue time to spend time with you at different locations to help you get the perfect shot and develop your wildlife photography skills.
