Pacuare Lodge

Pacuare Lodge is a stunning jungle hideaway that combines exquisite luxury with thrilling adventure in the most discreet way. In the evening, rooms are softly lit with oil lamps and candles welcoming weary heads for the night.

The accommodation at Pacuare Lodge includes five categories of room, from delightful garden bungalows to river-view suites to the outstanding Jaguar Villa with 350 square metres of jungle luxury. The Linda Vista suites are five huge, luxurious hillside bungalows with a four-poster bed, living area and large deck and a private pool. Whereas the Canopy Suite offers a life in the treetops, boasting a 180-degree jungle view.  The suite has a beautiful teak sun deck with private plunge pool and its own suspension bridge leads you to a treetop platform from which to observe canopy life.

A two-storey main building houses the restaurant, a bar and hammocks. Dining is a gourmet experience and not at all compromised by the remote location. Pacuare Lodge has its own series of zip lines and can arrange many experiences from hiking and bird-watching tours to cultural community visits. Their latest addition is a subtle yet striking spring-fed swimming pool that melts away into the river beyond.

Why We like It

Pacuare Lodge is one of those few properties that just gets it right.  The contrast of understated luxury and jungle living is a fantastic experience and whether you want to spend the day riding world-class rapids, or hiking in the jungle to remote communities or repelling down water falls, everything is carried out at the highest level.  The food is superb, the staff are welcoming, and the accommodation is tastefully lavish.

Activities

There is a wide menu of experiences to choose from. The adventure activities begin with your arrival where guests can choose to arrive by a combination of 4x4 and trekking through rugged rainforest terrain or by rafting along a stretch of world-class white-water rapids.  Once at the property, choose from nature tours, cultural hikes to visit indigenous communities, culinary tours or simply relax in the spa or by the pool.

Sustainability

Pacuare Lodge produces its own limited electricity through solar panels, water turbines and a biodigestor.  Their tap water is from an uncontaminated spring in the mountains producing the purest drinking water. Bathrooms are equipped with biodegradable soaps and shampoo and state of the art septic systems to avoid pollution.  Most of the food served at the lodge is organic and home grown. Pacuare Lodge also supports its local communities through work opportunities and regularly donates to local schools and projects in the area.

Location

Pacuare Lodge is located on the banks of the enchanting Pacuare River in the valley of the Talamanca Mountain range.  The lodge sits in the heart of a protected 25,000 acre reserve in Costa Rica’s Caribbean zone.
