Explora Patagonia

Benefitting from unrivalled views of the looming, snow-capped peaks of the Paine Massif mountain range, Explora Patagonia is a sleek base for exploration set amongst an isolated and silent landscape. Its cosy interior is owed to the extensive use of lenga, cypress and almendrillo woods interspersed throughout the property, although the extensive list of explorations on offer ensure that guests spend little time inside this Patagonian hideaway.

Its 50 rooms boast a streamlined and simple design so as not to draw attention away from the epic views of the surrounding waterfalls, lakes, rolling valleys and the indescribable Paine Massif mountain range. A warming indoor aromatherapy spa is perched on the edge of a lake in its own building, and features a heated pool and sauna as well as four open-air jacuzzis with views to the Paine River. Featuring tasty and indulgent dishes that still feel light and nutritious, the restaurant at Explora Patagonia seeks to utilise simple flavours and quality ingredients - both lunch and dinner are three-course affairs accompanied by an array of superb, hand-selected Chilean wines.

Why We Like It

An oasis of calm and tranquillity nestled within the lush Patagonian landscape, the property upholds the Explora philosophy that the best properties are bases for explorations rather than destinations themselves, so visitors can expect to embark on fascinating, windswept excursions out into the depths of the plateau before returning to relax in the common areas.

With an array of hiking trails starting directly from the hotel, as well as a nearby gaucho stables and the option to embark on a number of unique excursions, guests of Explora Patagonia are encouraged to discover all the facets of Torres del Paine.

Embark on a stroll through lenga tree woods or attempt to hike to the base of the Paine Towers. Alternatively, ride horseback across the prairies and rivers or cruise atop the turquoise waters of Lake Pehoé. Join explorations to the Torres base, the Grey Glacier and the Valle Francés (French Valley), or head out on a puma-tracking adventure.

Horse Riding

Explora Patagonia is the only property in the vicinity with its own private stables, and each of its 26 horses have been bred and trained in the family estate in the central valley of Chile. Head out on horseback in the guidance of a local gaucho to walk, trot or canter across the grassy pampas of Torres del Paine. Explora Patagonia is located on the shore of Lake Pehoe in the Torres del Paine National Park, a stones’ throw from mountains, turquoise lakes, glaciers, lenga tree forests, viewpoints, prairies and rivers of the Patagonian wilderness.

In a deliberate attempt to encourage visitors to disconnect from their everyday lives, rooms are not equipped with televisions or Wi-Fi, and these are only available in the common areas.
